Profile for Steve Huxham

Steve is widely recognised as one of the most knowledgeable nationally known Resourcing and Recruitment experts in the UK, thanks to his nearly twenty-five years of work as a senior Recruitment professional and HR & Resourcing Advisor. Whether that status has come by career design, planning, skill, aptitude, luck or just serendipity, he will leave others to judge! He remains grateful and humble to find himself in this position. His strategic, practical and commercial input and advice to Resourcing challenges large and small remains in high demand by businesses and individuals.

Career History and current Interests

In the early part of his career, Steve first became a Director of a leading Accountancy and City Recruitment practice at the age of 29, subsequently becoming MD. Afterwards, he became Marketing Director within a major quoted Recruitment Services Group and then in the mid 1990's co-founded new businesses for two leading Executive recruitment brands. HUX was established as a practice in 1997.

Aside from HUX, Steve’s other current main business interests are:

  • The Recruitment Society. Put quite simply, the Society is unique – it is the only professional Membership Association in the UK that brings together as Members (whether Individual or Corporate) all those involved in any way or capacity with Resourcing through their work. As Chairman, Steve has overseen the growth in Membership and the national standing and influence of the Society as a forum for best practice and innovation. The aim is to make it a body that anyone involved in any capacity with Recruitment in the UK will view as a “must” to join.
  • VetA. Steve is a Partner with VetA, which provides a bespoke range of support services to Trade, Professional and other Member Associations in the UK and Europe. The range includes Government Affairs, Public Affairs & Communications, Human Resources Support, Association Management, and other bespoke Specialist Services.
  • NED roles. Steve seeks to retain a small portfolio of Non-Executive positions within SMEs where his strategic, commercial, people and HR skills can add value to a business. These are currently mainly within the Human Capital related sectors, but his experience is transferable across most sectors SMEs are engaged in, and his contact base is deliberately diverse.

Other Professional Memberships

Currently Steve is also:

  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (sitting on two Committees - Recruitment Forum and Professional Standards: Resourcing);
  • Fellow of the Institute of Sales & Marketing Management;
  • Member of the Institute of Directors;
  • Member and Board Director at the Institute of Association Management;
  • Associate Member of the Fleet Air Arm Officer’s Association;
  • He attends Parliamentary meetings as a Senate Member for the Genesis Initiative (umbrella and co-ordinating body for SME organisations.)
  • He was granted the Freedom of the City of London in 1996, and is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers.
